A topographical survey or land survey is a detailed accurate plan drawing identifying both natural and man-made features within a specified area. The plan will show all features such as buildings, boundaries, services covers and site levels. Normally presented digitally in CAD format, we are also able to provide scaled paper copies.
Following a measured building survey request we initially assess the building structure in order to find the quickest and most accurate method to provide you with a cost effective solution. We have a wealth of experience of measured building surveys on varying projects from houses to schools, hospitals, retail stores, churches and heritage sites. We can provide you with remote surveying techniques for sensitive or inaccessible detail, by using laser scanning and reflectorless total stations.
High definition surveying, or 3D laser scanning, can provide you with a more enhanced and versatile measured survey solution. The technique remotely captures data on site, making it particularly useful in areas that are difficult to measure and areas of highly ornate detail, which also eliminates access or health and safety issues. It enables us to provide you with a highly sophisticated, efficient and cost effective survey service for your project, to millimetre accuracy.
At Terrain Surveys we have vast experience in engineering surveying and we use the latest technology available to provide you with an accurate and cost effective service. All of our surveyors have the appropriate CSCS cards, ensuring access to all sites. All of our work is also covered by the appropriate levels of Professional Indemnity Insurance, and we provide free advice and consultation on any project.
We have worked with Terrain Surveys on many projects and they have always been responsive and customer focused, as well as producing high quality drawings and 3D models. We required a high level of accuracy for the scanning work at St. Vedast church, so immediately thought of Terrain.
Terrain’s 3D models are very accurate and they also supplied high quality 2D drawings. The Revit model will give the council a record which they can view at any time, so they will no longer need to revisit the site to take measurements. We are delighted with the quality of the surveying work on this major project.
Terrain Surveys provided a responsive and competitively priced service. I was particularly impressed by their willingness to be proactive in discussions with the Local Authority and with their technically excellent input and assistance we were able to resolve a complex land remediation problem to the complete satisfaction of both the Local Authority and the client. I would not hesitate to recommend their services to other clients in similar situations and indeed my client will be calling on Terrain Surveys’ expertise again in order to demonstrate to the Local Authority that the re-graded land profile matches the proposed profile prepared by Terrain for my client’s planning application to meet County and District planning requirements and to resolve my client’s waterlogging and drainage problems.
We recently commissioned Terrain Surveys to comprehensively survey a complex group of grade II* listed religious buildings designed by the Victorian architect G.E. Street, and the surrounding landscape. Clearly we required a very high degree of accuracy and careful attention to detail to support what will inevitably prove to be a difficult application for planning approval I have to say that we were delighted with the finished result. The survey was tremendously accurate, clear, well organised and thorough. It was also beautifully drawn and gave a true sense of the quality of the buildings that the drawings described.

Terrain Surveys Land and Building Surveyors take pride in producing high-quality drawings and 3D models with a survey solution tailored to the specific needs of your project. The UK BIM Alliance will launch a Back to BIM Basics initiative in the first half of 2021, addressing the lack of BIM adoption among SMEs. The initiative will comprise short instructional videos and virtual events that will answer the five most common questions that businesses ask about BIM basics: What is BIM? The government's new Construction Playbook reinforces the BIM and digital requirements for public sector clients and contractors.

With the growing adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) by the construction and property sectors, quality measured survey data - BIM Surveys - is integral for your project and we have seen a steady increase in demand for the delivery of measured surveys in a 3D Revit format. An accurate 3D model is essential for your BIM Surveys project for each stage, from the design through to construction, managing and running the building and finally de-commissioning. The advantages of using 3D survey models over traditional 2D CAD drawings are well documented, with fundamental differences including that the Revit model is a complete 3D replica of your building or site and all elements within the model contain intelligent data, instead of just 2D linework.

Terrain Surveys are a land surveys practise offering a range of measured survey services, keeping up to date with current demands of both 2D and 3D information. As a land surveyor we not only provide you with services related to land and site development, but also provide highly accurate measured survey information of buildings and structures. With today's growing requirement for 3D data, Terrain Surveys can also provide you with 3D models and pointcloud datasets. A thorough land survey is required whatever the size of your project, with accurate well presented survey information vital for the design and planning processes.
Terrain Surveys can provide Aerial surveying services through the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or more commonly termed ‘drones'. An Aerial survey is carried out using a UAV to capture high definition imagery of a site which can then be processed to produce various deliverables. Our survey background ensures that the data captured is survey grade & fit for purpose. UAV's allow rapid and safe data capture of large areas in a very efficient manner which can prove to be a very cost effective alternative to conventional surveying methods.
